Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced the official launch of the U.S.-Tanzania Commercial Dialogue after both U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Tanzania’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
The launch of the U.S.-Tanzania Commercial Dialogue is the most recent example of actions the U.S. Department of Commerce is taking to expand and deepen commercial and trade ties with African countries. This Commercial Dialogue will boost two-way trade and investment by focusing on four key areas: the digital economy, market access, regulatory and business climate reform, and trade missions and trade fairs.
“In signing this memorandum, I am pleased to announce the launch of the U.S.-Tanzania Commercial Dialogue,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “This Commercial Dialogue is a critical step in our countries’ shared commitment to increasing bilateral trade and investment opportunities and ensuring mutual prosperity for our businesses and citizens.”
In February 2023, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago traveled to Tanzania, where she partnered with key interlocutors, including the Minister of Finance and Planning and the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, to launch this Commercial Dialogue to provide a forum for business and government leaders to strengthen trade and business-enabling environments and create business opportunities for the U.S. private sector and employment opportunities at home and in Tanzania.
