Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced that Chris Slevin will be the Department’s new Chief of Staff.

“I am proud to announce Chris Slevin as my new chief of staff here at the Department of Commerce,” said Secretary Raimondo.

“Chris’ record speaks for itself. Between his decade of experience on Capitol Hill and his recent work at the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, Chris has helped shepherd several historic pieces of legislation into law, including the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. Chris’ experience and leadership will be critical as the Department moves forward to implement these consequential pieces of legislation.”

Chris Slevin recently served as Deputy Director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. Prior to his role in the Administration, he served on the Biden-Harris Transition in the Office of Legislative Affairs. He has also served as vice president of the Economic Innovation Group, a research and advocacy organization focused on geographic inequality. Slevin served in the U.S. Senate for more than a decade, most recently as legislative director for Senator Cory Booker and earlier as a trade and labor policy advisor to Senator Sherrod Brown. Previously, he was a deputy director at Public Citizen, the national consumer advocacy organization.

Mike Harney, the Department’s current Chief of Staff, is stepping down from his role after more than two years on the job. From the beginning, Harney was instrumental in guiding Secretary Raimondo through her confirmation and building and leading the team at the Department of Commerce.

“Mike’s tireless leadership was instrumental to the major successes of the Commerce Department these past two years,” said Secretary Raimondo. “With his work, the department accomplished more than ever before. From overseeing investments in high-speed internet for all Americans through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to helping get the CHIPs and Science Act across the finish line and ready for implementation, we could not have accomplished any of this without Mike Harney.”
